A Winter semester graduate in New Orleans makes for a much nicer shoot than in Spring! Considering that we are only getting our Fall weather in late December, and our graduates in May are sweltering! I met with Miss A on a beautiful Saturday morning on the campus of The University of New Orleans. She was excited and ready to go. Complete with her fur babies and her bestie in the world that happens to be her mom.
As we walked the grounds and snapped some casuals, I not only felt the pride of this graduate for her own accomplishment, but the pride that her mother had for her was beyond apparent. Being a mother of two girls myself, that have not yet met this milestone, I could relate to these emotional moments of motherhood. Joy, sometimes sadness, fear, compassion, friendship, worry and overwhelming pride. Watching these two, I was reminded of a poem that has stuck with me for sometime.
My Girl
She’s the air that I breathe,
She’s the beat in my heart.
She’s the tear in my eyes,
When we are apart.
She’s the pride that I feel,
with all she achieves.
I’m the one who gives hope,
In what she believes.
She’s a part of my body,
but now she’s all grown.
As she waves me goodbye,
to find a life of he own.
My beautiful girl,
You’ve grown up so fine.
You make me so proud,
To know that you’re mine.
